On End Times
Maybe it’s true that we’re in the End Times. Maybe it’s true that prophecy is unfolding right before our eyes. Maybe it’s true that Jesus is coming soon. Or maybe we’re focused on the wrong things.
The problem with the Left Behind era is that it has produced in us a fear about the “end of the world” rather than an urgency to preach the Good News. There is absolutely a time and a place for eschatological discussion, but it cannot come at the expense of evangelism. We’ve got work to do.
Here’s the thing: If Jesus is coming soon, we had better be going sooner.
We can get caught up in the details, but ultimately, each passing day is one day closer to the return of Jesus. And as we approach “End Times,” our methods of evangelism are going to be a great litmus test for if we actually believe what we say we do.
I want to be like the woman at the well. After being with Jesus, she could not help but to share with others, saying, “Come, see a man who told me everything I ever did!” (John 4:29a). A true encounter with Jesus will always produce change in the life of a Believer, and it should always spur us on to share with others.
If we actually believe that our salvation leads to eternal life in Heaven, we should be eagerly awaiting His return, rather than living in fear.
If we actually believe that we are saved by faith in Jesus, we should be grieved by the amount of people in the world who still have not heard of Him.
If we actually believe that Jesus was who He said He was, we should be people who GO + TELL the Good News with urgency.
“If sinners be damned, at least let them leap to hell over our dead bodies. And if they perish, let them perish with our arms wrapped about their knees, imploring them to stay. If hell must be filled, let it be filled with the teeth of our exertions, and let not one go unwarned and unprayed for.” – Charles Spurgeon
